Headline: Cloudy with rain at times
Today: Cloudy with outbreaks of rain, these turning prolonged and heavy at times especially over Perthshire, then Fife where it will turn misty. Rain falling as snow over the hills. Winds light but freshening from the east along the coast. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Tonight: Cloudy with mist and rain, perhaps heavy at times and falling as snow on the hills. Fresh easterly winds towards Dundee, St Andrews and Crail. Minimum temperature 5 °C.
Friday: Cloudy with rain at times and further outbreaks of snow over the high ground. Cloud thinning in the afternoon and rain dying out, but still mostly cloudy. Maximum temperature 8 °C.
Outlook for Saturday to Monday: Dry through the weekend and Monday as a ridge builds over the country. Still rather chilly with frosts at night, but pleasant in the sunshine away from the east coast.
UK Outlook for Monday 21 May 2012 to Wednesday 30 May 2012: The new week should start rather cold for the time of year, but fine and dry with some sunshine across northern parts of the UK, mainly Scotland and Northern Ireland. Further south, more unsettled at first with showers or longer spells of rain, these perhaps thundery near the southeast, and quite breezy. Towards the end of the week, the drier, finer weather should transfer to more southern and eastern parts, with a chance of some cloudier conditions and rain returning to western parts. Temperatures by this time should be close to average, but to begin with, a little below average around the southeast. Probably staying similar for the rest of the period, with a chance of rain in the west, drier conditions in the east, and average temperatures prevailing.
UK Outlook for Thursday 31 May 2012 to Thursday 14 Jun 2012: Conditions look to be rather unsettled and changeable towards the end of May and into early June, but with no single weather type strongly favoured. Temperatures look to be near average generally, but perhaps a little below average at times in south and southeastern areas. These areas may also see slightly wetter-than-average conditions, at least early in the period. Otherwise much of the UK should see near-average rainfall amounts, perhaps even a little below average towards the far north.
